Abstract

The emerging communication technologies enable an effective management of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) used in electric power distribution systems so as to form a smart distribution network. The use of Demand Side Management (DSM) strategies in conjunction with effective planning of renewable energy sources decreases energy waste. In this research, the DSM applicable to residential consumers modifies the load curve by shifting the loads from peak to off-peak times. A simple genetic algorithm (SGA) is used for the optimal dispatch of Distributed Generation (DG) sources after load rescheduling. Thus DG optimization with responsive load scheduling reduces the energy consumption from the conventional grid and thereby encourages net zero carbon emissions. An IEEE 33 bus test system is considered for the study and the optimized results are presented.
