Abstract

This research article demonstrates how to optimize the performance of systems with reduced order based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) by the application of the compensator suggested. Parameters of the compensator and existing controller are tuned by employing GA on the standard lower order models of few systems with higher order. Difference between input and output of a unity feedback system is minimized by employing Integral Square Error (ISE) as the objective function in GA optimization. Results of the GA-based PID controlled/compensated system are compared with those of the GA-based proposed compensated system by evaluating the time domain specifications. GA-based proposed compensator structure is found to be superior to the GA-based existing PID controller/compensator and independent of the order of the system to be controlled.
