Abstract
India ranks among the top electricity consumers in the world. In fiscal year 2022-23, India consumed approximately 1,440 TWh, and this number is growing rapidly. 25% of the energy produced is consumed by domestic consumers. Traditional methods of tracking energy consumption are ineffective in the modern world. Cyclic billing periods by using analog energy meters are manual, and human errors can result in inflated bills. Smart energy meters enable remote reading and automatic billing in houses, thus reducing human errors in the process. It also allows the user to track their consumption pattern and take measures to reduce their bills. The design of the proposed system includes current and voltage sensors, an ESP32 module to transmit the data to the ThingSpeak channel and a user-friendly Android application to display real-time readings. The application also provides recommendations to reduce energy consumption and alerts in case of overloading or reduced power factor.
