Among the clean and renewable energy resources, alcohol-based flow fuel cells and photocatalyst based technologies are considered as a vital alternative to meet the certain percentage of future energy needs. In this connection, the current review presents the details related to the basic aspects, importance, applications and salient features of the alcohol flow fuel cells and technology transfer involved between the electrochemical cell and photocatalysts. The concepts precisely reviewed in the work are, platinum based electro-catalysts, synthesis of metal nano-catalysts, chelating materials, prevention of CO poisoning, confirmation of diffusion process, nano-catalyst firmness, electro-oxidation and its comprehensive mechanism, and optimization of electrolyte concentration including coupling mechanism of electrocatalyst with photocatalyts for insitu generation of energy with hydrogen production. Details about industrial significance of flow fuels stock utilization and the detection of intermediate products formed during process, test flow fuel cell assembly, working principle, photocatalyst-fuel cell bridging technolology between the generation of energy as well as the production of hydrogen and their applications are presented. The present work also reviews the photo-electrochemical system with the external power supply including its performance towards water splitting and splitting of hydrogen in the presence of alcohols. The current work is presented with an objective of providing information to benefit of young researchers aspearing to work in the field of design and technology development of direct flow fuel batteries in near future.
